Successful works in organic agriculture sector in Southeast Anatolia Region

Successful works in organic agriculture sector were shared with the stakeholders and members of the newly established GAP Organic Agriculture Cluster Association (GAP ORKÜDER) in a meeting in Şanlıurfa on 25 January 2016 hosted by GAP Regional Development Administration.

GAP Organic Agriculture Cluster Project is being executed by GAP Regional Development Administration with the technical assistance of UNDP since 2009. Several pilot projects in different locations with various product patterns are being implemented in the region to contribute to the aim of creating scalable and replicable success stories.

GAPOrganic Value Chain Pilot Projects Financial Support Program, first of its kind in Turkey, was designed to appeal to all circles of organic sector value chain in Southeast Anatolia Region. And is being implementedin partnership and coordination with İpekyolu Development Agency, Karacadağ Development Agency and Dicle Development Agency. Through the implementation of pilot projects, 9 million TL will be mobilized for Southeast Anatolia Region.

Moreover, the project ensured the participation of active producers, unions, cooperatives from the region to the fairs such as BIOFACH, Ecology İzmir, Exponatura Istanbul to promote organic products of the region and to extend marketing opportunities. In addition to that, various trainings were provided and study visits were organized to develop institutional capacity.

Periodic meetings were organizedwith organic food and organic textile working groups to identify the needs of the region and the sector and organize necessary activities accordingly.

The GAP Organic Agriculture Portal was launched with its new design and content to contribute to the aim of creating scalable and replicable success stories, developing production and marketing infrastructure and enhancing the cooperation among the actors within the context of the GAP Organic Agriculture Cluster Project.  Also the right of usage of this portal was transferred to GAP ORKÜDER through protocol ceremony.

GAP Organic Agriculture Cluster Association (GAP ORKÜDER) is founded in 3 June 2016 in order to ensure the sustainability and institutionalization of the activities realized again within the context of the project and the first General Assembly was carried out in 17 November 2016.

It is very crucial that all the cooperation developed through GAP Organic Agriculture Cluster Project should increasingly continue within this newly established Association and all the stakeholders working in the field of organic sector in the region should be affiliated to the Association and actively participate to the activities.
